THE GUERNSEY
The challenge was to create a new guernsey that supported the new logo and helped players feel intimidating and imposing on the pitch. The players wanted a guernsey that made them feel like a powerful football team, not an expansion novelty team.
The monochromatic GAMEDAY RED guernsey, the first of its kind in the AFL, is a fearless statement. This design choice reflects a club that means business. Stealthy, imposing, and focused. By stripping away distractions, the guernsey communicates a no-nonsense, all-football mentality. When SUNS players put on the GAMEDAY RED, they are making a clear declaration: they are here to dominate. The deep red speaks to the heat, intensity, and fire of both our club and the Gold Coast itself, while the simplicity of the design underlines our unrelenting focus on performance.
The gradient and wave form woven into the guernsey are more than just visual elements — they symbolise the club’s journey and connection to the region. The gradient, a contemporary choice in the AFL which uses exclusively block colours, represents our forward momentum, while the wave form is a nod to one of our most iconic past designs. It’s a seamless blend of respecting our history and embracing a bold future. The gradient also mirrors the natural elements around us — the heat haze rising from the ground on match days and the undulating forms of the ocean—adding depth to our fearless identity.
The SUNS have always been unapologetically bold, trailblazing and united with their community. As they step onto the field, they invite everyone to rise with them.
